Berry Banana Smoothie

It's summer. It's hot. It's smoothie territory. I have been making variations of this smoothie all summer, and I thought it would be nice to share with you, dear readers. Although smoothies really go without saying, I like my method, and who knows, maybe it will change your life.Or simply remind you to make smoothies. You see, my secret is: frozen berries. Yes, it's summer, fresh berries abound, but I don't like putting ice in my smoothie, it makes it too watery. Most grocery stores sell organic frozen berries, and this way you can make your berry smoothies year-round. There is always the option, of course, to buy fresh berries and then freeze them yourself.

The Basic Recipe

single serving

ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup almond milk (or milk or soy milk or yogurt)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups frozen berries (I usually use a mixture of blueberries and strawberries, but recently, also blackberries and raspberries)
  • 1 ripe banana

Put all ingredients in blender. Voila.

Variations to mix and match (that really work, trust me)

avocado (yes, it's amazing); walnuts or almonds; tofu; honey or agave;
finely grated ginger (Microplane);1/2 tsp lemon juice; softened oatmeal. Yum.

Have fun!
