Remember the Fresh Ginger Cake of 2010? I made it to celebrate the end of 2011 and the birth of 2012. To this day, it was the best cake I've ever made. Topped with homemade cardamom whipped cream and berries. It's definitely the cake of 2012.

Why do we always celebrate the end of the year so late at night only to wake up on the first day of the year with a hangover? Way to start the new year. Having a brunch with friends was a really nice way to officially end the year. There is something to ceremony. There is something to taking one's time while creating a shared meal. Cheers to more shared meals in 2012!

There was a spread of baguettes and cheeses. The arugula salad was simple, but delicious. I first started making this salad a couple of years ago when blood oranges were in season and I wanted it to be the star of a salad. Alas, after the citrus's short-lived season I had to make due. It's still a really great salad without them. Still can't wait for blood orange season! More blood oranges in 2012!
